But the greatest love of all is...
You've just been given the first clue to what will be the grandest scavenger hunt you'll ever experience. Your only goal is to search and find what awaits you at the end of your quest. It's both exciting and frustrating what with trying to use all of your intellectual ability to figure out clue after clue. What or who will greet you at the end of it all?
I believe my search for love and my longing to know what it was began when I was a little girl. As I've stated before, I've always been a lover of all things love. My ideas [about love] were influenced by the people around me (parents, family, etc.), the media and books that I frequently indulged in. Although all of these things, in one way or another, began to shape my view of love and what it is... nothing could compare to what I know now is the greatest love of all.
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. -1 John 4:16
Everyone on this earth has formulated their own idea of what love is at some point in time. Some of us may view it with softened hearts, while others may view it with hearts that have turned cold. Our humaness, fleeting feelings/emotions and all, creates a version or idea of love that often times does not match up to the Creator who fully embodies love.
Our love can be conditional. Our love can come with stipulations. Our love can be selfish. Our love can demand reciprocity. Our love can be surface level, fearful of digging deeper.
Most of all... our love is not perfect and it never will be.
What I've come to know about the greatest love of all is that God chooses to love me and you relentlessly without fail and without conditions. The ideas and influences that shaped my thoughts on love from the time I was a little girl until now have crumbled to pieces the more I've come into the knowledge and wisdom of the infinite love of God.
While Valentine's day (though it's passed) is a day to celebrate love and it's nice seeing all the flowers, chocolates, teddy bears and paragraphs of affection on social media... I celebrate love knowing that the Creator who placed the stars in the sky loves me. There is nothing you or me can do that can separate us from this kind of love.
...And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord's holy people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge- that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. -Eph. 3:17-19
In my moment of creating this series, #LoveDaze, all about love in a month that celebrates love, I couldn't go on without acknowledging not just what love is... but who love is. God's love addresses the deepest needs of our human hearts no matter who we are, what we've done or where we've been. God is love.
As I conclude this series, I hope that you have embraced love a little more. I hope that love be on your heart in your mind a little more. I hope that love lifts you up. I hope that love finds you in your darkest moments and shines a light on your life.
Above all else, I hope you know the greatest love of all.
